A year ago, at the Fairfield Vision Center, in walked an 11 year-old girl named Leanna*. Leanna had never worn glasses and her mid-semester grades were straight F’s. She was greeted warmly by the front desk and quickly called back to the optometrist’s office. As Dr. McManis examined her eyesight, it became clear Leanna couldn’t see more than a foot in front of her face. She was given a free pair of glasses and was told to come back in 30 days for a check-in.
30 days later, she had transformed her grades from all F’s to 4 C’s and 2 F’s that were very close to being D’s. A simple pair of glasses allowed Leanna to be more engaged in the classroom, and feel more confident in her ability to be a successful student.
